Everything You Need to Know Before We Speak

Below are answers to the questions leaders, founders and business owners most commonly ask before we work together, whether they're considering 1-to-1 coaching, team coaching, a structured programme or board advisory support.

  1. What is executive coaching?

Executive coaching is a professional development process for leaders, founders and senior executives. It's confidential, personalised and focused entirely on your situation, your goals and what you need to move forward.

In practice, the work adapts to what each client needs. Sometimes that's structured coaching to work through a specific challenge or decision. Sometimes it's drawing on commercial experience to give a direct perspective or practical advice. Sometimes it's helping someone build a specific leadership skill. The common thread is that every conversation is purposeful, honest and focused on moving you forward.

  2. How is your approach different from other coaches?

Most coaches ask good questions and let you find your own answers. That has its place. But I work differently. When you come to me with a problem, a decision or a challenge, I bring over 30 years of commercial experience to bear, give you a direct point of view and tell you what I actually think. You'll leave every conversation with clarity, direction and a clear next step, not more questions to sit with. Leaders and founders come to me because they want someone who'll be genuinely straight with them, not just reflective.

  3. Who do you typically work with?

I work with founders, senior leaders, business owners and leadership teams who are navigating complexity, growth or change, not just in the UK but globally. Some clients engage privately, paying their own fees - typically senior leaders and professionals who want confidential, independent support outside their organisation. Others are commissioned and funded by their organisation directly, including SMEs, professional services firms and larger corporates. I work with clients across the UK, US and internationally.

  4. What should I expect from a 1-to-1 coaching session?

A focused, confidential space to work through what's on your mind, whether that's a specific decision, a leadership challenge or something broader that's been weighing on you. You'll leave every session with clarity on where you are, direction on what to do next and a clear path forward. Sessions are practical and outcome-focused, not open-ended or reflective for its own sake.

  5. What sectors do you work with?

I work across multiple sectors including professional services, law, financial services, technology, consultancy, retail, media, tourism, transport and manufacturing. My commercial background means I don't need to be taught how a sector operates. I bring genuine understanding of the pressures, dynamics and decisions that leaders in different industries face.

  6. Is everything we discuss completely confidential?

Yes, without exception. Confidentiality is the foundation of everything I do. N othing you share in a coaching session is ever disclosed to anyone - not your organisation, not a sponsor, not a third party - without your explicit consent. This applies equally whether you're a privately funded client or working through an organisationally commissioned engagement.

For senior leaders in particular, the value of coaching often depends entirely on having a space where they can be completely straight - about their doubts, their decisions, their relationships and the things they wouldn't say to anyone in their building. That space only exists if confidentiality is absolute. It is.

  7. Do you offer online coaching?

Yes. The majority of my clients work with me online, which gives us the flexibility to work together regardless of geography. I work with leaders and founders across the UK, US and internationally. Online sessions are just as focused, confidential and effective as in-person work.

  8. What are the benefits of team coaching?

Team coaching is one of the fastest-growing areas of leadership development, and for good reason. When a leadership team is pulling in different directions, the whole organisation feels it. Team coaching helps your people move from working alongside each other to genuinely pulling together, building shared ownership, trust and accountability. The result is a team that performs consistently, handles pressure better and drives results rather than just managing them.

  9. How long does an engagement last?

It depends on what you need. For flexible 1-to-1 coaching, engagements typically run over 6, 9 or 12 sessions, providing focused support without a long-term commitment. For leaders and organisations who want a more structured, sustained pathway, I offer three 12-month programmes covering individual leadership, team performance and business growth. Board advisory and NED roles are longer-term by nature, providing continuity through key phases of growth or change.

  10. What tools and resources do you use?

I use CliftonStrengths®, Belbin® Team Roles and the Energy Leadership Index™ to bring genuine insight into how you lead, think and collaborate. All structured 12-month programmes include access to The Curve®, a dedicated coaching platform that tracks your goals, maps your progress and measures outcomes throughout the year.

  11. Can I earn CPD hours through your coaching?

Yes. My three structured 12-month programmes carry up to 25 formally accredited CPD hours, supporting your professional development and allowing you to evidence your learning. I'm among the top 1% of coaches worldwide who offer formally accredited CPD hours as part of their practice.

  12. What is The Curve coaching platform?

The Curve is your personal coaching workspace. It helps you map and track your progress, set and monitor goals, reflect between sessions and stay focused throughout the engagement. All clients on my structured 12-month programmes get access to this secure, easy-to-use platform, giving every engagement a clear structure, measurable milestones and a record of progress that makes the development visible and accountable.

  13. What are the fees for coaching or NED advisory work?

Fees are tailored to each engagement based on the format, scope and duration of the work. I'm happy to discuss what would be most appropriate for your situation on your discovery call. There's no obligation and no pressure.

  14. How do I know what type of support is right for me?

Most conversations start with what feels unclear, heavy or unresolved. From there, we explore together whether flexible coaching, a structured programme, board advisory or a non-executive role is the most appropriate next step. If you're not sure, the best thing to do is book a discovery call and we'll work it out from there.

  15. What happens on a discovery call?

A discovery call is a confidential, no-obligation conversation, usually around 30 minutes. We'll talk through where you are, what you're navigating and what kind of support would be most useful. There's no pitch and no pressure. You leave with a clear sense of whether working together makes sense and if so, what that would look like.

  16. How do I get started?

Simply book a confidential call. We'll talk through your situation and explore what type of support would add the most value. It's straightforward, confidential and without obligation.

One conversation is usually all it takes - whether you still have questions or you're ready to get started.
